Pipefitters, sometimes simply called fitters, install and maintain pipes that carry chemicals, acids, and gases. These pipes are used mostly in manufacturing, commercial, and industrial settings. Fitters install and repair pipe systems in power plants, as well as heating and cooling systems in large office buildings. Some pipefitters specialize as gasfitters, sprinklerfitters, or steamfitters.
Most states and localities require plumbers to be licensed. Although licensing requirements vary, most states and localities require workers to have 2 to 5 years of experience and to pass an exam that shows their knowledge of the trade and of local plumbing codes before they are permitted to work independently. In addition, most employers require plumbers to have a driver’s license.

The word "plumber" dates from the Roman Empire.[3] The Latin for lead is plumbum. Roman roofs used lead in conduits and drain pipes[4] and some were also covered with lead, lead was also used for piping and for making baths.[5] In medieval times anyone who worked with lead was referred to as a plumber as can be seen from an extract of workmen fixing a roof in Westminster Palace and were referred to as plumbers "To Gilbert de Westminster, plumber, working about the roof of the pantry of the little hall, covering it with lead, and about various defects in the roof of the little hall".[6] Thus a person with expertise in working with lead was first known as a Plumbarius which was later shortened to plumber.

This is a great company. I called around 8:30 AM to report that I had a clogged kitchen drain. I asked how much it would be to unclog the drain and was told $65.00 if they could access the drain through the exit valve in the wall outside the kitchen, $95.00 if they could not. My house is configured such that Ramon couldn't access my sink via the access valve, so my job cost $95.00 . Fair. Just what I had been quoted. I have had a great experience all around with this company. A polite, knowledgeable lady answered my call, then told me she could have someone out between 10:00 AM and 12:00 noon. Ramon arrived at 10:00 sharp. Perfect! Ramon is a fine man -- personable, polite, knowledgeable, and a hard worker. He unstopped my drain in no time flat. No drama. No surprises. Just good, old-fashioned quality service. They take credit cards, cash, or check. Convenient. I recommend Ramon and his company to all, and will (if necessary) contact Charlie's Rooter Service first for any future plumbing or pipe problems.

A licensed plumber means the person completed the necessary education or training required to work as a professional tradesperson. Hiring a licensed plumbing service means the people working on your building are knowledgeable about water and gas pipes. If you use unlicensed workers, you run the risk of them damaging your home even further and endangering you by doing faulty work.
Plumbers in Australia have licensing requirements that differ from state to state but it is generally accepted a 4-year apprenticeship with a further minimum experience of 2 years (6 years total) and a further curricular requirement as a benchmark for licensing. Licensed plumbers are also expected to maintain minimum relevant training requirements to maintain their plumbing license

It may be tempting to ignore a small faucet leak, or try to fix that clogged toilet yourself. Although we encourage homeowners to be discerning with their decisions, in some cases it is just safer—and eliminates lots of headaches down the road—by calling on professional help. A licensed plumber will be able to pinpoint the problem and provide you with the best course of action.
While it’s their job to make sure your pipes work like a well-oiled machine, it’s not their job to rebuild the wall they had to demolish to make that happen. So, while you’re going to get that water problem fixed, you’ll want to discuss in detail what kind of “mess” they might leave behind prior to the start of the project so you can plan accordingly. Remember, there are some jobs you can do yourself. Here’s how to solder copper pipe joints!
